How to make coconut oil at home

To make homemade coconut oil, the first thing is to get your milk. To prepare about 1 cup of coconut milk, we will use 8 large coconuts that, when shaken, make a good sound of water. Prepare a story or a large bowl, placing a pasta filter prepared with a clean, white cloth in your mouth: we will use it to filter the product.

Drill the coconuts, carefully, at the 3 most vulnerable points (where the coconut is attached to the tree) and recover the liquid in a bowl, filtering it to remove strands and other dirt that could sneak. Open the coconuts in halves or quarters, and place them with the meat down in the hot oven for 5 to 7 minutes.

Remove them and, prying with a knife, remove the pulp, cut it into pieces and bring to the blender with hot water: 3 cups of hot water for every 2 cups of coconut meat. Press to emulsify, at high power, and then filter through the cloth to the same bowl where you had previously extracted coconut water. Press the fabric well to obtain as much coconut milk as possible.

Put the milk obtained in a glass jar with a screw cap, tightly closed, and leave at room temperature for 24 to 48 hours to ferment. You will notice that, after the fermentation time, the product has been divided into two layers in the bottle: a thick layer (coconut butter) and a liquid layer. Take the refrigerator uncovered for an hour to solidify the butter and extract it more easily. Place it in a pan and heat over low heat, while stirring constantly so it does not burn, and evaporate the remaining water that has remained.
